We speak Spanish and meet in a church called “First Baptist Church of Groves.” Isn’t that weird?
Well, just let me remind you of something very important The first church in history, which was formed by the first disciples who participated in Jesus’ ministry and saw him resurrected, was made up of people from different nations, who even spoke different languages.
Ten days after the ascension of Jesus, God poured out his Spirit on those who had believed in Him, and a large number of people who visited the city for the Feast of Pentecost had the opportunity to hear the message of Jesus. Part of the event is described with these words:
“Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” Acts 2:9-11
That day, three thousand people from that crowd believed in Jesus, were baptized and became part of the first church in history. They were people from different nations, who still spoke different languages. But together they formed the same church.
That is why we also accepted the challenge. We want to be like that church, all identified by the salvation we receive by believing in Jesus, even if we speak another language.
Those of us who speak Spanish, are we a church that meets in the building of another church? No. We are the same church, only that sometimes we meet in different places to better understand what God has to teach us. We have understood that spiritual things, the Word of God, the teachings of the gospel, are so important that we have to understand them really well. And what better than to reflect in our mother tongue, the one we understand best?
We encourage you to get in touch with us, to integrate, to participate in our activities.
