If Anyone Doesn’t Provide For His Household, He Has Denied The Faith
I Timothy 5:1-16
Families have a spiritual financial responsibility to one another that honors the elderly both within the home and the church. An unwillingness to provide reflects one who does not know the Lord.
- Establish Family RespectFor One Another 5:1-2
1.Respect The Older Men As Fathers 5:1a
2.Treat The Younger Men As Brothers 5:1b
- Regard TheOlder WomenAs Mothers 5:2a
- Treat TheYounger WomenAs Sisters 5:2b
2.Honor The Widows Who Demonstrated Faithfulness 5:3-16
- Older Widows:
1) Godly, With No Living Children 5:3,5,9-10,16
To be honored and provided for.
- a)She is alone 5:5
- b)She hopes in God 5:5
- c)She continues in prayer 5:5
- d)She Exhibits Great Character 5:9-10,16
Look at her home, hospitality, humility, heart and helpfulness to assess her faithfulness.
2) With Living Children 5:4,8
To be cared for by their families.
- a)Grandchildren that show godliness 5:4.
- b)Children that show appreciation 5:4
- c)Families that please the Lord 5:4
- d)Families that affirm the faith 5:8
3) Carnal, Who Live for Themselves 5:6-7
They are to receive no help.
- a)They pursue a self-indulgent life 5:6
- b)They discredit the cause of Christ 5:7
- Younger Widows:
1) The Principle 5:11-12,14
Remarry and raise children.
2) The Reason 5:13,15
Resist the temptation to immorality and idle talk.
